Paphiopedilum herrmanii

Got this plant recently from Song Orchids. Not sure whether it will flower again but it should be able to survive like the hirsutissimums. The plant came labelled as henryanum but i am quite sure it is herrmanii, a natural hybrid between hirsutissimum and henryanum.

Paphiopedilum primulinum var. flavum

A very cute variety of Paph. primulinum recently bought from Song Orchids. The first flower bud did not develop and dropped off soon after i bought the plant. I was a bit worried that the plant may not be able to make it although i had grown primulinums many years back without problem. I eventually lost those plants to mites after a few years.

Phalaenopsis Penang violacea

Recently, the flower shape of Phal. Penang violacea showed great improvement. This may be due to the recently cooler nights or maybe the plant managed to find itself some nutrients that i had been too lazy to give for a long time.

Paphiopedilum Delrosi

I believe this could be another hybrid suitable for Singapore. So far the plant appears to be quite vigorous in growth but the true test will be next year. As long as it can re-flower then it is pretty much ok.

A Few New Buds

Got this Paph. Delrosi a few months ago without flower but soon after that two flower spikes started to develop and now it is a beautiful specimen. Took it down from its growing area this morning to take this picture cos its growing area is a bit dim in the morning. See pics below.

The small pic on the left show its shady growing area while the pic on the right shows a juicy new root. Hope the snails don't find it juicy too.

Somehow i have a feeling this Maudiae type bud (above) is not going to make it as well cos all my maudiae buds blasted recently. Keeping my fingers crossed though.

This is the almost ready-to-open bud of another plant of Paph. spicerianum. My spicerianums are going crazy now. Another plant is going to have three flowers soon.

This is a Paph. fairrieanum plant producing a flower spike for the first time. Must be the cool nights. Hope it is the green alba form.

(Too bad the flower stalk was broken by something yesterday(3/9/2009). Cannot be sure of the cause cos sometimes the squirrel comes running through or a tree frog may have snapped it.)

Dendrobium Song2

This dendrobium is either called Song2 or SongSong. It is a cross made by Mr. Phua Gik Song of Song Orchids. Not many survived in his nursery so a few years ago i had to try very hard to beg him to sell me one plant after we saw that one of the 4 surviving plants had flowered, carrying a spray of very delightful yellowish green flower with strong Den. capra influence.
