Paphiopedilum hirsutissimum var esquirolei

This cool loving paph is flowering for the first time. I got it with a developing bud so cannot be sure whether it will flower again. This flower has just opened so maybe that is why the petals are not that wavy.

Sure enough, after a few days the petals became wavy and the dorsal sepal also curved backwards. This picture was taken on morning of 01/09/2009.

Paphiopedilum Vanguard

Paphiopedilum Vanguard is a cross between Paph. glaucophyllum and Paph. rothschildianum. Like Paph. Shireen, this paph should be able to flower easily in our climate. This is a very beautiful plant from Taiwan.

Paphiopedilum spicerianum (小青蛙)

I used to think that paph spicerianum cannot flower in our climate. This was because i had a pot of spicerianum which died on me many years back. Last year, Mr. Phua of Song orchids told me that many growers in Singapore successfully flowered this Paph so i decided to buy two plants to try it out again. One plant is now with one flower and two developing flower spikes while the other is now developing two flower spikes. Hope that the plants will keep flowering. Does it look like a little frog (小青蛙)? I think the staminode part looks like the monkey god opera face mask( 孫悟空脸谱).

Dendrobium fimbriatum

A very beautiful dendrobium species having a geographical range from China, India, Myanmar down to South East Asia in deciduous seasonal montane forests. It is a cool loving dendrobium so it is not easy to flower in lowland condition esp. our warm Singaporean climate. This plant recently decided to flower so it must be due to a drop in temperature sometime ago. Got this plant about 4 years ago from WL(with flower). This is the first time it decided to flower after that.

Paphiopedilum philippinense

This is the philippinense plant that i had for more than 20 years. It does not flower easily in our weather. Also, it seems that it is not necessary that the bigger growths will flower. This flower spike was produced on a smaller growth. Just realised that the petals are not twisted. Got to check my older pics to confirm.

Paphiopedilum praestans

Almost all the flowers on the two spikes are fully opened so it is good time to take a photo. The other praestans plant is showing signs of flowering soon.

Paphiopedilum spicerianum

Plant #1 developing a new flower spike.
Plant #2 with a well developed flower spike and another new one not visible in this pic.

Two Paph spicerianum plants are preparing to flower now. One plant is now carrying 2 flower spikes while the other is carrying one. If all goes well the first flower should open in another week's time.
