Dendrobium pachyphyllum

I have two colonies of Dendrobium pachyphyllums. One colony is mounted on top of my wooden orchid shelter (the Penthouse Gang) while the other colony grows around a coconut husk pot originally meant for my Dendrobium anosmum (the Coconut Gang).

The Penthouse Gang of Dendrobium pachyphyllum

Closer look at the Penthouse Gang

As close as my camera could go.

The Coconut Gang, originally a few strays from the Penthouse Gang. I like this Dendrobium cos it flowers all the time, esp. when the weather becomes a bit cooler due to a few days of rain. As with all good things, it doesn't last long. It stays fresh only for a day or two.

Phah. glanduliferum Next Flower Spike

The most recent update on the Paph. glanduliferum. I recently bought a bag of "dragonfly clip" from Island Landscape so i am using it to secure the flower spike,

The close-up of the axial flower bud. This growth is at the back of the picture above.

Maudiae type Paphs from Taiwan

This opened lately. Suppose to be same batch as the plant below except it has warts on the petals.

These are 2 pics of the same flower which opened earlier. There are no warts on the petals.

Phal. bellina 'Green' from Penang

These two pics are of the same flower. The plant came from Mr. Lim Song (Penang). The plant is still young and this is the first flowering. The flower has a jade green tone so it is very pretty.
This is the first green phal from Mr. Lim.

Phal. bellina

This bellina comes from Law MH nursery. It has good shape and substance.

Phal. hieroglyphica

Phal. hieroglyphica from Woon Leng. Not the best around but rather large in size. The bars are also not as dense. I have another plant bought from Tommy Sng many years back. That plant hasn't been flowering for a long time.

Another Paph. Maudiae alba Opening Soon

This is another of the Paph. Maudiae alba from Singapore Garden Festival.

Phal. George Vasquez x Princess Kaiulani

This is the latest flowering of this plant from Mr. Law MH. I tied more moss to the fern bark to give the plant more humidity. The plant responded by growing bigger and more shiny leaves.

Bulbophyllum plumatum?

Got this plant from Mr. Law MH. It is flowering for the first time after being mounted on a fern root block. Should be a plumatum.

Bulbophyllum purpurascens

Close-ups of the flowers of Bulb. purpurascens.

Started with only a few bulbs, the colony expanded into a big clump now.

This colony of Bulb. purpurascens is going into mass flowering soon. I mounted them high up so they can get a lot of air movement. This was a gift from Mr. Yusof Alsagoff, who also sold me the Paph. glanduliferum many years back when i lived in Pasir Ris and visited him more often. In fact a few other Dendrobiums in my collection were gifts from him.

Paph. glanduliferum

Picture of the flower taken this morning. Very nice twists on the petals. I didn't want to shift the pot to take this picture cos last time when i did that, i accidentally snapped off a flower... So since the flower is facing away from me, i had to take this picture pointing the lens inwards. This is the best of all the pics taken.

The front growth's axial leaf turned red indicating another flower spike is forming. This plant has recently gone into flowering frenzy. Trust me, i didn't do anything!!

View of the current flower spike and the seed-pod from the previous spike, whose last flower dropped not long ago. Like i said in the earlier post, i will try to make another seed-pod. The previous pod might be an empty one.

Phal. amboinensis

This amboinensis came from the collection of Mr. David Lim. I have neglected it a bit but now i am trying to get it back to award-winning shape.

Paphs Bought From the Singapore Garden Festival

Got these 2 Paphs recently from the Garden Festival at Suntec City. Some are still budding so flower will appear one after another for me. The Maudiae alba was still in bud when i bought it whereas the wardii hybrid was already in flower.

Trias picta

Trias picta recently went into blooming frenzy, these 2 flowers are on different sides of the small wooden stick. Very interesting flower cos the petals have become so small while the sepals are so big.

A Few Good Cornu_Cervis

This cornu-cervi comes under classification of 'Red' but of course is a far cry from the chattaladae or 'Damrong' variety.

This is the 'Dark Star' variety from Mr. David Lim. I have a few plants so i can always have at least one plant in bloom. I started with one plant but soon there are many keikis. Somebody just offered to buy all five of my other plants for a good sum. Hmmm very tempting.

This is close-up of 'Dark Star' on another plant.

This is a newly acquired cornu-cervi alba. This batch from Song Orchid has bigger flowers so it is highly sought after for hybridising.

This one is just a common variety. Just put in cos it is flowering at the moment.

Very Nice Miniature Blue Dendrobium

This miniature blue Dendrobium is from Mr. Phua GS of Song Orchid. Heard that he is moving to 67 Sungei Tengah soon. I have never been a fan of "Airport Orchids" but this one just called out to me. If you think the picture is nice wait until you see the real flower. I saw a similar plant in CTC market and i was undecided whether to buy so i went to walk abit more with the wifey then when i went back to the stall it was gone!! Now it re-appeared in Song Orchid!!!

Paph. glanduliferum again and again!!!!!

The flowers from the previous spike have all fallen and now another flower spike is on the way. I just checked this morning and found that the small axial leave in another growth has just turned red as well, indicating another flower spike in the making. This plant is so floriferous i decided to self it and hopefully it can produce a lot of offsprings for all paph lovers in singapore.

Very green bellina hybrid

This is a hybrid between a very green bellina and a malayan violacea. The flower is very big.

Bellinas from Law Moi Hwa

These 3 bellinas are from Mr. Law Moi Hwa, winner of this year's best breeder award at the Singapore Garden Festival.

Three bellinas from Penang are in flower

These 3 plants are all from Mr. Lim Song in Penang. His nursery is at Telok Bahang, near the Mutiara hotel and Butterfly Farm.
