Two Maudiae Type Paphs

A new growth of Paph Claire de Lune and another Maudiae type formed a flower spike recently. Hope the weather continue to be cool at night so the bud can develope successfully and not dry up and drop off.
31/7/09 Latest Update: The dark purple bud had blasted. I think it was the heat during the day. Hope the Claire de Lune can make it. This was the third Maudiae type bud that blasted on me. The other two were green maudiae types that i bought during the Garden Festival. I was so happy when the plants produced the flower buds but soon after the buds developed to about an inch long they stopped and the color of the bud turned slightly pale green with a 'papery' type of texture. It was definitely drying up.
Interesting to note that bud development was fine until that point. The weather was also variable from day to day when the bud was developing but no damage was observed. Only when the bud became about an inch long did damage set in. No more protection from the bract covering the bud? If that is the case would providing some kind of cover for the bud help? Need to investigate this possibility.

Paphiopedilum philippinense

Close-up of flower buds

This Paph philippinense is flowering soon. The flower spike appeared about 3 weeks ago but it seems this time it is the only one formed. The other new growths are still not showing any signs of flowering yet. This is the oldest plant of philippinense in my collection.

Phalaenopsis Tsay's Evergreen

Bought this Phal. Tsay's Evergreen from Song Orchid a few months ago. The flowers faded soon after i brought it home but recently a couple of new buds develooped. Flower shape is not as good compared to the ones the plants came with.

This is a complex hybrid of Phalaenopsis Sheba's Elf x Phalaenopsis Yungho Princess Gelb.

Sheba's Elf = mannii x Mambo
Yungho princess Gelb = YunghoGelbliambo × Princess kaiulani
Yungho Gelbliambo = Gelblieber × amboinensis
Phalaenopsis Gelblieber= amboinensis × micholitzii
Princess kaiulani = violacea x amboinensis

The flowers are huge at about 2 inches across and bears large beautiful yellow patches on a cream/white background.

Phalaenopsis Penang violacea

A very nice Phal Penang violacea from Taiwan. Bought it many years ago when whites were a craze. This plant has a greenish/slightly yellowish tone.

Phalaenopsis venosa again

This plant from MH nursery appears to be quite free flowering. It threw out two more flowers and in my opinion there was some improvement in the color. But the shape of the flowers are not as rounded as some better ones that i've seen.

Phalaenopsis Tan Lee Moy(Batik x amboinensis)

Another of my Batik x amboinensis flowered. This was my first truly expensive investment which i bought from Mr. Tommy Sng. I subsequently bought 2 more similar plants from him. This particular plant is different because the flowers' color does not fade like the other two.

Paphiopedilum praestans

This plant was purchased from WL almost 10 years ago. Paph praestans is an easy paph to grow in singapore and has no problem flowering in HDB balconies. I use a medium with lots of washed sand, clay pellets, fern bark and charcoal chips. Another pot of praestans growing next to this pot is however still not showing any signs of flowering. But from past experience, the two pots do not flower together and is usually a month apart.

Phalaenopsis bellina

This plant was purchased from LMH last year. I like this bellina because it has more violet and the shape is not bad.
