A new growth of Paph Claire de Lune and another Maudiae type formed a flower spike recently. Hope the weather continue to be cool at night so the bud can develope successfully and not dry up and drop off.
31/7/09 Latest Update: The dark purple bud had blasted. I think it was the heat during the day. Hope the Claire de Lune can make it. This was the third Maudiae type bud that blasted on me. The other two were green maudiae types that i bought during the Garden Festival. I was so happy when the plants produced the flower buds but soon after the buds developed to about an inch long they stopped and the color of the bud turned slightly pale green with a 'papery' type of texture. It was definitely drying up.
Interesting to note that bud development was fine until that point. The weather was also variable from day to day when the bud was developing but no damage was observed. Only when the bud became about an inch long did damage set in. No more protection from the bract covering the bud? If that is the case would providing some kind of cover for the bud help? Need to investigate this possibility.
