Paphiopedilum praestans

This plant was purchased from WL almost 10 years ago. Paph praestans is an easy paph to grow in singapore and has no problem flowering in HDB balconies. I use a medium with lots of washed sand, clay pellets, fern bark and charcoal chips. Another pot of praestans growing next to this pot is however still not showing any signs of flowering. But from past experience, the two pots do not flower together and is usually a month apart.

  1. What a lovely clump and two spikes! Nice growing.

I am wondering if you ever experience brown pitting on older paph leaves - do you have any idea what causes this?

  2. Yes, some of my paphs also have brown pittings on older leaves. On thick leaves, they appear sunken whereas on thinner leaves they appear as round brown spots. I usually let it be and the leaf eventually turn yellow and dries up. Most of the time it does not affect the healthy new leaves. No idea what is the cause though.

  3. Thanks Joe - I thought it was only me.

I really wish I knew what causes it - the large plants in TW do not ever have them...
